Come on in 2018, sit down, stay a while. Starting a new year is kind of like having a friend over for dinner for the first time. You want to be extra nice and polite and you bring out the good plates because you want to make the right first impression. But that’s just it, after a few months you and this new friend (you’re now besties), reflecting on that night realize how silly it all was. As a matter of fact, this newfound bestie likes those Kmart plates you’ve had since college, the ones with the stickers still stuck on the back, somehow, miraculously. Your bestie even asks you, why’d you use those fancy plates that one time…. Instead of using the plates that are so totally true to who you are. The ones with a knick in the side here and there because sometimes you get a little too tipsy when washing them because obviously they’re not dishwasher safe. You learned that the hard way. Okay, maybe this no longer has anything to do with kicking off a new year, but then again I think it kind of does. At least it has something to do with resolutions…maybe.
The answer is yes. Yes, I make resolutions. I don’t even do it out of pressure, I just really like any excuse to make a list. Especially a “to do” list, and isn’t a resolutions list the ultimate “to do” list? (Or maybe that would be a bucket list…I’m going to call it a tie). So what do I do? I write my resolutions down somewhere, misplace it, forget what I resolved to do, and most likely let down a few bullet points on said list. Oops, I think I just spoke for 99% of America.
But here’s the thing, without sounding braggy I’d like to say that I think I live a pretty healthy lifestyle. Sure I drink a lot of wine, but who doesn’t? As far as my eating habits go, I’m pretty solid. Turning now to health and fitness, this year I did make some strides, but not because I was motived to do so from some long lost New Year’s Resolutions. I’m proud of myself for making (and going to) a doctor’s apt for a yearly checkup. I’m not a fan of doctors, or at least wasn’t a fan of my previous ones (I love my new doctor located right in Greenwich, CT in case you’re looking). But I’m so glad I am taking care of my health and taking preventative steps like check-ups! On top of that I finally discovered a workout that worked easily into my everyday life. Pure Barre Greenwich has been amazing to me so far and I can’t wait for what the future brings with them! I love seeing the progress I make, slowly, very slowly, but nonetheless I am making progress! I love everything about Pure Barre, which I promise to share more with you in a future post!
So getting really into it all, if you were to ask me, are resolutions silly? My answer would again be, yes! But I’m still going to make them, I’m still going to forget them, and I’m still going to break them (at least some of them). Actually, instead of making resolutions, I think I’ll just set some measurable goals for the upcoming months/year. If you think that’s the same thing as New Year’s Resolutions, well, you’re not wrong, but I would argue there is a slight difference. New Year’s Resolutions always seem to be made in a state of blissful optimism. Hey, if you’re anything like me, you probably made your New Year’s Resolutions while sipping a few too many glasses of champagne last NYE. Or maybe not (I swear I’m typically not a procrastinator). Back to what I was saying…this year I’ve sat down sans bubbles and drafted several goals that I think are realistically reachable and/or maintainable. Wish me luck and good luck to you too!
I’ve already shared my goals in my 22 Goals Before I Turn 22 post–> here! But since I’m such an overachiever here’s a few more blog related goals below!
